The Victorian Baths in Town Hall Street, Elland had a dangerous structure notice against it. The building required propping prior to asbestos removal and full demolition could commence. It had been highlighted in two independent structural engineers’ reports that the pool hall gable wall and roof structure were showing significant signs of distress.
Special attention needed to be taken to the existing war memorial located in the Huddersfield Road gable which could not be removed prior to the gable being demolished. Vale Park provided a full protective enclosure to the memorial for the duration of the works.
Calderdale Council had requirements to preserve the entrance portico, date stone and coat of arms. Each of these were carefully dismantled and relocated for future use.
As part of the demolition package the adjoining public toilets were also demolished.
